How To Reduce Cell Phone Radiation Using S.A.R. : Specific Absorption Rate

You know how you always wanted your cell phone to get better reception? All those dropped mobile phone calls…you know the ones I mean: You’re in the middle of an important discussion and all of a sudden your phone blips off and you grunt in exasperation, frantically hitting redial. Maybe, when you get reconnected, you even comment: “Someday these things will work better.” Well, guess what? The signal strength we enjoy today is significantly stronger than that of 20 years ago for precisely that reason. We wanted better signal strength.

More Coverage But More Cell Phone Radiation

What this means to me and you, however, is more electromagnetic fields and more cell phone radiation. This is a big deal because the increase has been dramatic over those last two decades. What was once, low-level, relatively non-hazardous, electromagnetic frequency radiation has become potentially deadly.

Many studies used today that proclaim that cell phones are safe were conducted while radio frequency radiation was still quite low. Now, with the signal strength and the density of EMF’s so much higher, your health is at risk, believe me.

You may already have symptoms of electrical sensitivity like me. If you’ve got headaches, fatigue, Alzheimer’s, cancer, fibromyalgia, leukemia, epilepsy, autism, Parkinsons disease and you’ve been using a cell phone for the last 10 years or so, your illness could be linked to your mobile phone use.

What Is S.A.R. ?

S.A.R. is the Specific Absorption Rate at which your body absorbs radio-frequency from various sources: cell phones, microwaves, cell-towers, Wi-Fi, etc. that is present in your surroundings. With a cell phone, the highest S.A.R. is going to be near the ear. Not co-incidentally, the highest rate of cancers reported by cell phone users correlates to the location near the ear that has the most cell phone use.

You will want to look for something called the “S.A.R. level or value” of a cell phone. In the U.S., the FCC has designated an S.A.R. level of 1.6 watts per kilogram as “safe”. The S.A.R. data of a particular cell phone is available at : http://www.fcc.gov/Bureaus/Engineering_Technology/Documents/bulletins/oet65/oet65c.pdf. Sometimes it is even coded on the cell phone inside the battery pack or the phone manufacturer will publish the identification number for the specific level.

S.A.R. and Your Risk of Cell-Phone Caused Cancer

My best advice is to not use a cell phone at all, except in emergencies. If this isn’t viable for you, limit your use: Use a headset, do not keep your phone turned on between uses, do not carry your phone on your body and follow my recommendations on how to protect yourself from electromagnetic fields.

Protect Yourself Using The SAR Data

Can you protect yourself using SAR data? If you are committed to carry on using your cell phone then using the cell phone with the lowest S.A.R. level might seem like a step in the right direction.  BUT if you think using a cell phone with a low SAR means you are safe, think again. Even a low SAR cell phone poses a serious long term effect on your health, see my cell phone radiation protection tips for advice on how to best safeguard your health from the dangers of cell phone radiation.

  • Can We Rely on SAR to Protect Us From Cell Phone Radiation? | electricsense.com said,

[...] Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is the rate at which your body absorbs cell phone radiation, or at least that is how it reported in the media.  This measurement is purported to tell you how much radiation is emitted into your body when you use your cell phone.  Recent claims suggest that knowing the SAR of a particular cell phone is especially valuable so that you can make an informed choice about which phone is best in terms of the lowest exposure to electromagnetic radiation.
